You may have heard the saying, "If you look around the poker table and you don't know who the sucker is, it's you."
Well, I'm looking around my network trying to find the conversation that we desperately need to have about Learning and A.I. And I'm not finding it anywhere. So guess what: I'm throwing the party. And you're invited. I'm calling it a campfire. It will be virtual. I've scheduled two of them so far, on Sep 3rd and 10th at 7p ET. Many of the smartest people I know will be there: to speak, to listen, and to help all of us build a community of conversations around this issue that can stick together for however long we need it. Which may be a minute. This feels like a big one. I feel like we kind of blew it with our kids and social media. We let our kids explore those unknown playgrounds more or less untethered (at least, I did), and my kids are quite frank with me about the cost their brains accrued.
I don't want that to happen again. And I believe that if we stick together, and keep sharing with each other - yes, out loud - the best information we have, on the regular, we can navigate this technological moment together a little bit better than we did the last ones. I won't spend this whole blog post delineating all the issues and wringing my hands. This isn't going to be a meeting of the women's temperance union, where we decry and bemoan and make America analog again. That's not going to happen. A.I. has tons of positive, even fantastic uses, which we'll be discussing as well. But I do think there are lines we may want to draw around usage, as well as terrific use cases we can, should, and will share.
So, come to the campfire. Bring a kid, or a teacher, or a friend. We're going to have a bunch of brilliant kids as panelists, as well as parents and educators and businesspeople. Admission is free. I'll be moderating, and I'll try to give everyone a chance to speak, and read your questions in the chat. I'd love you to join us.
